BSGI Objectives

The principal objectives are:

To promote and encourage the study and application of all forms of imaging related to the specialty, specifically to promote the wellbeing of women’s health through imaging,

To promote and support the professional standards, values and interests of the society,

To promote and support the professional standards, values and interests of the society,

To identify through membership, doctors and allied health care professionals with an interest in the specialty’s imaging fields and promote a network of these members to share knowledge and skills,

To update its members through newsletters of all developments,

To organise national meetings to disseminate knowledge and skills of the Society,

To raise the profile of the specialty's imaging amongst health care providers in the United Kingdom,

To publish and disseminate knowledge and good practice as defined by the General Medical Council’s and other professional bodies.

In education and research, the Society aims:

To promote education and training amongst professionals training in the specialty’s imaging fields through regular meetings, conferences and workshops,

To encourage and support the development of good quality research.

In relation to other professional bodies and the general public, the Society aims:

To educate members of the public and raise their awareness in the various applications and formats related to the specialty’s imaging fields,

To interact with any related patient support groups to promote women’s health through imaging,

To collaborate with national and international societies related to the use of imaging as the Society deems necessary,

To avail bursaries and scholarships as deemed appropriate for the objectives of the Society. The amount, timing and selection process will be decided by the committee.

Membership is open to individuals who are medically qualified doctors both specialists and trainees, nurses, radiographers, radiologists, physicists, midwives and other allied health care professional with an interest in imaging and deemed appropriate by the founding committee of trustees.

Professionals practicing in the United Kingdom wishing to join the Society must be either registered with their professional body, General Medical Council or Health Professionals Council (HPC) or entitled to work as a sonographer in the United Kingdom. This is not a requirement for international and non-practicing doctors and allied health care professionals who wish to become members of the Society.
