Nurses
Welcome to the Nurse Sonographers' page
The role of the Nurse Sonographer is ever expanding. Many outpatient services depend on instant access to ultrasound diagnostics, which has enabled one-stop clinics to offer a safe and convenient service to patients. Examples of such clinics are Early Pregnancy Units, Emergency Gynaecology Units, Menstrual Disorders Clinics and Post-Menopausal Bleeding Clinics. Other clinics which depend heavily on instant access to ultrasound for diagnosis and management are Fertility clinics, including Assisted Conception Clinics.
Nurses are very well placed to perform high-quality ultrasound. They are already highly skilled in history-taking and the holistic approach to patient care, as well as providing health care and advice.
Standardised training in ultrasound is essential to such independent practice. The BSGI will provide a multi-disciplinary forum for nurses, midwives and other healthcare professionals to share best practice and support one another. The society will also advise on how to obtain nationally accredited training, CPD and audit.
I would love to how best I can represent all nurses and midwives in the society so I am keen to hear from any nurses already using ultrasound skills in practice or those considering training in ultrasound.
